Where Can I Play League of Legends? PC, Mac, Mobile, and Console Options

You can play the desktop version of League of Legends on a supported Windows PC or Mac. It is free-to-play and uses an installed game client. On a compatible phone, Riot's alternative is League of Legends: Wild Rift, a separate mobile game rather than the desktop version running on a smaller screen.

The key questions are which device you have, which version your friends play, and which regional server your account uses. An Xbox website listing or a mobile app with League branding does not necessarily mean you can launch desktop League on that device.

Which platforms support League of Legends?

Device or platformWhat you can play
Supported Windows PC or laptopDesktop League of Legends through Riot's client.
Supported MacDesktop League of Legends using the Mac installer.
Compatible Android phone or iPhoneWild Rift, the separate mobile game.
PlayStation, Xbox console, or Nintendo SwitchNo native desktop League of Legends release.
Linux, SteamOS, or ChromeOSOutside Riot's supported desktop operating systems.
Web browser aloneNo official browser edition of desktop League.

Riot's official download page offers Windows and Mac installers. Its system-requirements page identifies Windows and macOS as the supported desktop operating systems.

Can I play on a Windows laptop or Mac?

Yes, provided the computer meets the current requirements. A gaming desktop is not mandatory, but the operating-system name alone does not establish compatibility.

Riot's current Windows table specifies an x64 system rather than Windows on ARM, with Windows 10 build 19041 or later or Windows 11. Graphics support must include DirectX 11 feature level 11_0. Check the full requirements for your processor, memory, graphics hardware, and available storage before downloading.

Processor requirements also change: Riot's Patch 26.21 notes explain a launcher-library change requiring SSE 4.2, a processor instruction set. This is one reason an older “League runs on anything” recommendation may no longer describe a particular computer accurately.

For a Mac, use the Mac installer and compare your machine with Riot's current macOS requirements. Do not assume that every Mac model or macOS release qualifies simply because a Mac download is offered.

On Windows, League also requires Riot Vanguard, Riot's game-security software. It must be active for play; an installation that reaches the launcher can still be blocked by a Vanguard issue. Use Riot's Vanguard support guidance for the specific error rather than treating it as proof that League is unavailable on Windows.

Can I play League of Legends on my phone?

You can play Wild Rift on supported Android and Apple mobile devices, subject to availability in your region. Riot describes it as a five-versus-five multiplayer online battle arena, or MOBA, rebuilt for mobile controls and matches.

The distinction matters when joining friends: Wild Rift players do not join desktop League matches. If your friends play League on Windows or Mac, you need the desktop game to join that player pool. Sharing champions and a fictional universe does not make the two games interchangeable.

Start with the official Wild Rift overview and check its mobile requirements. Those requirements are separate from the computer game's specifications; a phone being able to install other Riot apps does not establish Wild Rift compatibility.

Why does League appear on the Xbox website?

The Xbox storefront carries PC games as well as console games. On the official League of Legends Xbox listing, the supported platform under “Play with” is PC. That listing is not evidence of an Xbox console edition.

The page also describes Game Pass benefits, but identifies League as free-to-play. A subscription benefit and a supported platform are different things: you do not need to subscribe merely to download and play the base game through Riot.

What about browsers, Chromebooks, and Steam Deck?

Riot's official desktop route requires downloading the client; it does not offer a browser-only League edition. A website displaying champions, account information, or match statistics is not the playable game client.

Riot also explicitly excludes Linux and SteamOS from its supported operating systems. Consequently, a Steam Deck running its standard SteamOS is not a supported desktop League setup. ChromeOS likewise is not one of the listed desktop platforms.

Streaming a game from another computer, changing an operating system, or using a compatibility tool is a different arrangement from native platform support. This guide does not establish a currently supported cloud-gaming service for League. If you are deciding which existing device to use, a qualifying Windows computer or Mac is the direct official route.

Which regional server should I choose to play with friends?

Ask your friends which League region their accounts use before setting up yours. Riot operates separate regions, including Europe West, Europe Nordic & East, North America, and others. Two people living in Europe, for example, should not assume their accounts are on the same server.

Riot's regional-server guide explains that each account is associated with a League region. The launcher can handle multiple servers, but that does not turn an account into a universal cross-region account.

For an existing account, read the transfer rules before making changes. A nearby server may improve connection conditions, but matching your friends' region also matters when the goal is playing together.

Which option fits what I want to play?

  • Desktop League with friends: use a supported Windows PC or Mac and confirm the same League region.
  • Mobile matches: check Wild Rift's availability and device requirements, and make sure your friends also mean Wild Rift.
  • A console or browser-only setup: do not treat a storefront listing or League-branded website as a playable desktop version.

Platform information and official sources were checked on November 1, 2026. Before committing to a download, confirm the game title, supported hardware, and account region together.
